New Subsidiary Created to Focus on University IP Opportunities
Sigma, the specialist asset manager, whose activities span venture capital fund management, university IP commercialisation and property investment, is pleased to announce that it has created a new, wholly-owned group subsidiary, Sigma IP Limited (“Sigma IP”), to conduct the Group’s university IP commercialisation activities. The creation of Sigma IP reflects the development of Sigma’s business activities in the university IP sector and is in line with the Board’s ambitions to capitalise on the opportunities available.
Neil Crabb, Sigma’s Chief Investment Officer, has been appointed as Chairman and Director of Sigma IP and Alister Minty has been recruited as Director of Sigma IP in order to provide further support. Alister has substantial experience of IP commercialisation. He is a founding director, seed-investor and Chairman of two technology companies spun out of the universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the University of Strathclyde. Alister was also an early member of Scottish Enterprise’s National High Growth Start-up Unit during which time he mentored over 40 start-up and university spinout companies from pre-incorporation to investment.
