Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond MSP MP visited Pelamis Wave Power Ltd in Leith to see the construction of the P2, PWP’s next generation Wave Energy Converter. The machine is being built for E.on and is the first time a major utility has ordered a wave power project in the UK. He was accompanied by MEPs Alyn Smith and Ian Hudghton and the SNPs four prospective European parliamentary candidates to mark the launch of the SNP’s European election campaign. The First Minister toured the entire site and spent time speaking directly to PWP engineers and project developers to gain some insight into their work and the future potential of the industry.
He highlighted the importance of green jobs on his visit and said "Pelamis Wave Power is an excellent example of Scottish success, we are developing groundbreaking technology which will put Scotland at the forefront of Europe's renewable revolution and create 16,000 green jobs in Scotland over the next decade."
