John Favier, CEO of DEM Solutions, presented a paper on the role of particle simulation in Quality by Design for pharmaceutical manufacture—a topic of increasing importance to the audience of key pharmaceutical representatives who gathered at the Pharma Seminar recently hosted by Medeso, the distributor of EDEM in Scandinavia, held in Lingby, Denmark on October 29th.
The paper was a timely contribution to the seminar, which focused on “Quality by Design”—the new manufacturing paradigm being adopted by the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, in response to growing needs to reduce production costs and increase process efficiencies, and to respond to regulatory pressure to improve control and quantitative understanding of the pharmaceutical production process.
Quality by Design is an approach which addresses the necessity for manufacturing process design to include a detailed understanding of the physical properties and constitutive behavior of the materials being processed—and how corresponding production processes affect product quality.
