Building IPTV specialist enables channel and technology partners to integrate IPTV solutions with third-party applications through introduction of new custom application development service.
Exterity, the Building IPTV specialist, today announces the launch of the Exterity Receiver Development Kit (RDK), a state-of-the-art platform that will enable its partners to develop and deliver multimedia services that integrate with digital signage, Video on-Demand (VoD), property management systems and room control systems. The Exterity RDK will be demonstrated for the first time at Integrated Systems Europe 2010, which is taking place from 2nd-4th February at the Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands.
The Exterity RDK offers a powerful Linux-based multi-application development and integration platform that allows the delivery of a broad range of high-quality services and applications, combined with live TV and video, to multiple Exterity IPTV receivers (also known as IP set-top boxes). This will enable Exterity’s channel partners to increase revenues by offering an extended portfolio of interactive, personalised IPTV applications and services, whilst reducing product time-to-market. Partners will also be able to enhance the customer experience through customisable user interfaces and easily add new functionality or applications to their IPTV solutions through integration with third-party applications.
The RDK will also provide programmers and administrators with access to every configurable parameter on Exterity’s IPTV receivers, including network settings, browser settings and maintenance functions, which may be accessed remotely. Some of the ways in which the RDK can be used include:
- VoD: control the playback of VoD content, provide a customised VoD interface or integration with payment systems.
- Digital signage: incorporate live TV with dynamically updating external content (such as RSS sources), easily customise user-interfaces for organisational branding or dynamically reposition content on the screen when undertaking a new activity without interrupting the playing content.
- Customisable user interface: customise the TV user interface (such as channel lists and interface menus), tailor a solution to different groups at different times in different places or add value by seamlessly integrating with existing standard third-party IPTV equipment.
- Third-party integration: incorporate W3C web standards such as CSS, HTML and JavaScript to provide rich programming environments for third-party integration opportunities or integrate with third-party Middleware or social media sites like twitter and Digg.
