B1 Medical and Invibio Biomaterial Solutions Collaborate - 19 May 2010

B1 Medical, the innovative Aberdeen-based company dedicated to the development and commercialisation of innovative medical devices in the field of orthopaedics, have partnered together with Invibio® Biomaterial Solutions, a worldwide leading provider of high-performance implantable biomaterials to the surgical and medical device markets, to provide scientific support on B1 Medical's development of a novel PEEK-OPTIMA® polymer suture anchor and a pioneering new PEEK-OPTIMA® based replacement small joint.

B1 has a novel suture anchor system designed to give strong tissue fixation and ease to new surgeons.  This patented design will be used as the basis of the new anchor manufactured from PEEK-OPTIMA®.
PEEK-OPTIMA® is also the base material chosen for B1's innovative new replacement small joint that addresses many of the drawbacks of existing designs and will open up a significant new untapped market for small joint replacement.

Invibio Biomaterial Solutions provides comprehensive resource and technical expertise to speed up time to market for new medical device designs.  Their market leading position in advanced biomaterials, combined with powerful value added services allows new medical devices to realise accelerated market success.

Speaking about the agreement, Mark Wickham CEO of B1 Medical said: "I am delighted that our two companies have come together to collaborate on these exciting new products.  B1 Medical has a first look and option agreement with the prestigious institutions of NHS Grampian, the University of Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon University on IP in the field of Orthopaedics.  The novel suture anchor system and small joint are examples of a pipeline of orthopaedic products that B1 has in development.
