Scottish Southern Energy Extends Relationship With Onzo - 10 Aug 2010

Customer engagement specialists Onzo has secured a number of new contracts with its UK client, Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE).

The new contracts will cover solutions across Onzo’s award-winning customer touchpoints, software and consulting services and are central to SSE’s smart metering strategy.

Smart meters have been deployed in their hundreds of thousands by utilities worldwide but their rollout has been met with an unexpected consumer backlash in some regions, including California and the Netherlands. Industry observers have attributed this to a lack of initiatives designed to educate consumers of the benefits that smart metering can bring.

SSE’s smart metering strategy will place the consumer at the heart of their offer, ensuring that customers receive the full value and benefits of smart metering as part of a partnership with the utility.

Colin Sempill, Director of Business Transformation at SSE said: “SSE is pleased to extend its relationship with Onzo and make them a central part of our smart metering strategy. We have worked closely with the company for over two years and believe they can make an important contribution to our efforts to ensure that consumers understand and welcome the coming roll-out of smart meters”.

Joel Hagan, Onzo’s Chief Executive, said: “Onzo is delighted that we are able to extend our relationship with SSE and play an important role as they enter the exciting era of smart meters. They have proved excellent partners and have provided the model for other utility relationships that we are building in Europe and in other parts of the world”.

SSE and Onzo have also partnered on a multi-million pound project, which was agreed in 2008, to supply SSE with over £7 million worth of Onzo’s products and services.
