Oyster 2 Design Verified by DET Norske Veritas - 19 Jul 2010

Wave energy developer Aquamarine Power has been awarded a Statement of Feasibility for their Oyster 2 wave energy device from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), one of the world’s leading independent risk classification organisations.

This is the first time a Statement of Feasibility has been awarded by DNV for a wave energy device.

The statement deems that the Oyster 2 technology, which will commence construction later this year, is conceptually feasible and suited for further development, according to their standard DNV-OSS-312.

Det Norske Veritas undertook a rigorous investigation of each part of the Oyster 2 design in preparation of the statement.

“This is a significant third party validation of our Oyster 2 design and is testament to the excellent engineering work being undertaken by our specialist engineering team,” says company CEO Martin McAdam.

“The next stage, where DNV consider verification of our design, will be even more exacting – however I am confident our engineers and our design will meet this challenge.

“As we move towards commercial sales of Oyster it is essential that our customers have confidence in the technology. The DNV verification process is an essential part of that confidence.”
