The Abolition of Customer Focus - 14 Oct 2010

Responding to today’s announcement that the Government is to axe Consumer Focus, the consumer watchdog, Joel Hagan, Chief Executive of Onzo, said:

“If Consumer Focus is to be abolished then Ofgem’s role as a regulator must be much more clearly defined, and its objectives clarified in terms of protecting consumers,” he said.

“Consumer Focus was a strong advocate for a genuinely competitive market, working on behalf of consumers to get their voices heard, particularly in the energy market.  All too often it seems that Ofgem has judged the competitiveness of the energy sector through switching rates.  But switching is not in and of itself a good measure of competitiveness – which must drive prices down and increase innovation.”
