Bolton's project to link primary and secondary care requests for patient placements is beginning to show how real improvements can be made by using modern communication tools to facilitate the referal process.

The system provides the capability to run intermediate care and virtual wards, at a glance KPI's on how the trust is performing and integration with acute trust for referals.
Royal Bolton Hospital have been using ExtraMed Beds and A&E Whiteboard for several years while Bolton Primary Care Trust have been using Primary Care Beds for the last year.
