DEM Solutions Expands With First Japanese office - 15 Aug 2011

Engineering software firm DEM Solutions has launched an office in Japan and recruited a senior management and sales team to spearhead further growth in the Asian nation.

The firm, which is headquartered in Edinburgh, specialises in simulation engineering software used in the handling and processing of bulk materials in industries such as mining and steel making.

It has been trading in Japan since 2005 but has now opened an operation in Yokohama - the country's second-largest city. DEM's existing customers include the Nippon Steel Corporation and Ricoh.

Ian Williamson, global vice-president of sales, said: "The opening of our Japanese office along with recruitment of an international management team marks a major development in the company's growth plans."

The firm has recruited Eiji Nagasawa, a former general manager of NEC Semiconductors UK, as managing director of the Japanese business.
