Local boxing club, Doncaster Plant Works, is set to benefit from a substantial £7,500 cash injection following sponsorship from local business partners, Countryside, the UK’s leading mixed-tenure developer, Sage Housing, the UK’s largest provider of newly built affordable housing and Sigma Capital Group with Simple Life Homes, who are each donating £2,500.
The three companies are working together in the area to build 671 high quality, new, two, three and four-bedroom homes on the Pullman Green development in Hexthorpe, close to the home of the boxing club.
Early in the development the partners heard about the boxing club which was set up by the workers at the Plant Works in the 1920s and what it meant to the local area and wanted to put something back into the community.
Paul Harrison, Head Coach at Doncaster Plant Works ABC, said:
“Getting sponsorship like this is brilliant, really outstanding, and it means such a lot to the club. I can’t tell you how much we can do with funding like this. Not only will we be able to replace some of the windows at the club, we can also get more equipment, uniform and kit.
“But most of all it means that some of our boxers with real talent will get to compete in competitions as we can cover the entry costs and put them up. For some, this will mean their first trip down to London and for others it’ll be the first time they have been away at all.”
Timothy Pegg, Land and Planning Director, Yorkshire, Countryside, said:
“Doncaster Plant Works ABC gives so much to young people in the area. It provides a great place for them to meet and train. The level at which some of the young men compete is staggering and we are thrilled that our donation will make such a difference to both the club and some of these talented individuals.”
Rizwan Khan, Head of Investment and Partnerships, Sage Housing, said:
“The club is doing a great job to support young people in the local area and is a real asset to the community. I’m delighted that our donation will support the amazing work that the club is doing.”
Niamh Waldron, ESG Director on behalf of Sigma Simple Life added:
“We are always looking for ways in which we can support the wider local communities in which our Simple Life neighbourhoods sit and we have a track record supporting local schools and youth sports teams. We are delighted to be able to support such a wonderful local club in Hexthorpe. We hope that the donation will attract new talent and also help to give youth members more opportunities”
The new Pullman Green housing development will occupy prime land alongside the River Don, within walking distance to central Doncaster and will provide much-needed affordable housing for the area.
