Sigma Capital donates £10k to school and equestrian enterprise

Sigma Capital has continued its work with local communities through its Simple Life and DifRent brands by recently donating £10k to a local Liverpool school and equestrian enterprise.

Sigma is a big believer in supporting the local communities in which it operates, either through its two build to rent brands Simple Life and DifRent, or as a regeneration partner and has therefore pledged up to £50,000 to local charities and to schools that are situated near to its build to rent schemes.

Sigma recently donated £8,000 to Monksdown Primary School in Norris Green, Liverpool and a further £2,000 to a local Toxteth equestrian enterprise, Park Palace Ponies.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, the company which has delivered over 2,200 build to rent homes, across the North West over the last six years, is helping communities that are local to the projects that they are working on by providing schools with new equipment or initiatives in support of their growth.

Monksdown Primary School was no exception, with its outdoor areas in need of an upgrade, the teachers and pupils chose to spend their £8,000 donation on two benches, two slides and a water play area.

Also based in Liverpool, Park Palace Ponies, which aims to inspire a new generation of young riders, has used its £2,000 donation to sponsor Moses the pony and provide riding lessons for the Year 3 pupils of Monksdown Primary School.

Keith Hackett from Park Palace Ponies said: “We are hugely grateful for the pony sponsorship that Sigma Capital has provided. The company’s generosity has helped us make learning to ride affordable for children from across Liverpool and we cannot thank them enough.”

Monksdown Primary School is central to Sigma’s DifRent Norris Green development, where there are currently 221 properties for rent as part of a wider £100m regeneration project, which has completely transformed the area. The phased development of Norris Green moved at pace over the last decade, responding to market conditions, to create a popular, urban village, which now mixes homes sold on the open market with the DifRent private rental properties.

Stephanie Gough, headteacher at Monksdown Primary School said: “Having worked at Monksdown Primary School since 1980, I have witnessed both the fall and rise of the local neighbourhood, from the dilapidated Boot Estate to the current DifRent Norris Green Development.  This exciting journey has ensured that Monksdown is once again the very heart of the Norris Green Community and pupil numbers have increased to over 500 children. Sigma’s donations have helped to improve our outdoor learning environment and additional contributions have enabled us to provide some exciting, enrichment experiences. We’re very grateful for Sigma’s continued support and generosity.”

The schools to have received donations from Sigma in 2018 are Monksdown Primary School in Norris Green, Liverpool, Mills Hill Primary School in Chadderton, Greater Manchester and Riverview Primary School in Salford. Over in Sheffield, St Theresa’s Catholic School will receive the £8,000 funding, along with Galton Valley Primary School in Smethwick in the West Midlands.
