Sigma has joined forces with housebuilder Kellen Homes to develop 272 new homes on brownfield land at Bennett Street in Manchester.
One of the leading providers in the build-to-rent market, Sigma Capital Group Limited is working with housebuilder Kellen Homes to develop the new homes. Sigma’s private rental brand, Simple Life, has over 5,500 properties across the UK.
The scheme has been given the go-ahead from Manchester City Council and will see 172 new houses and 100 apartments, 0.82 acres of public green space and a community centre with parking and disabled parking for local people, developed on the 13-acre, former Olympic Freight depot on Bennett Street.
The new development which will be called The Gateway, is a mix of detached, semi-detached homes and apartments. All the houses will have gardens, all homes will be pet-friendly and will benefit from fitted, modern appliances. The homes will be let under Sigma’s Simple Life Homes brand with Kellen Homes responsible for the construction.
The development project is expected to take around three years and will provide 858 construction jobs. Kellen has committed to employing as many local people as possible. The new homes will contribute 7.76% of Manchester’s annual housing target and will provide housing for 887 people.*
Jason Berry, Regional Managing Director at Sigma, said: “We are excited to embark on this latest venture with new, trusted partners Kellen Homes, to help support the local and wider community. This scheme will deliver high-quality, professionally-managed rental homes in an area that is facing undersupply of attainable, family homes. We are focused on our legacy of regeneration, and we are delighted to be able to deliver this important project.”
Kellen Homes Chief Executive Ian Kelley said: “This new development is a significant boost for the community, and we are very pleased to be able to start work on this important scheme with a long-established, development partner.
“We will be providing quality new homes for local people, a community centre, creating new jobs, and public green space for everyone to enjoy and benefit from. Kellen builds communities through carefully designed homes and neighbourhoods, and I am delighted that we can bring this investment into Manchester.”
