Councillors Mike Bird and Adrian Andrew unveil new Wednesbury housing development

A brand new collection of family homes has been officially launched in Wednesbury as Walsall Council joined homebuilder Countryside to unveil Wards Keep, a mixed-tenure development of two, three and four bedroom houses, as well as one bedroom self-contained apartments.

The leader and deputy leader of Walsall Council, Cllr Mike Bird and Cllr Adrian Andrew, joined members of Countryside and Sigma Capital Group plc to praise the launch of the highly anticipated development on Heathfield Lane.

Speaking about the scheme, Leader of Walsall Council, Cllr Mike Bird said: “This is a welcome development. New homes are vital if Walsall’s economy is to grow and support the next generation. This proves that partnership working can make a positive impact in the borough.”

Joe Turner, Development Director at Countryside, added: “Wards Keep is a true partnership scheme with ourselves and Sigma working collaboratively, with support from Walsall Council, to deliver quality, family-sized housing that’s available to both buy and rent. Since our launch in the West Midlands just two years ago, we’ve gone from strength-to-strength with Wards Keep being one of our largest, mixed tenure developments within the region, to date. Our aim for this scheme is to not only provide opportunities for local residents to get a foot on the housing ladder, but to encourage new families to settle in the area and boost the local economy.”

Graeme Reay, Land Director at Sigma Capital comments: “We are really proud to be building on our ever-growing partnership with Countryside Properties, particularly in the West Midlands where we have seen such a high demand for our new build rental homes.

“We are pleased to be bringing a new rental experience to this area, offering Simple Life residents total peace of mind from renting from a professional landlord with a 24/7 customer service and maintenance team. Simple Life works hard to bring new communities together and Ward’s Keep will be no exception.”

Of the 207 homes under construction, 90 three and four bedroom homes will be available for sale on the open market as freehold, with the option to use the Government’s 5% deposit Help to Buy scheme. Whilst eight of the three bedroom homes will be available through a Shared Ownership initiative.

The remaining 109 two, three and four bedroom houses, and one bedroom self-contained apartments, will be available for private rent through Sigma’s Simple Life brand.

Homes at Wards Keep come complete with Countryside’s enhanced specification package, which includes a range of stunning extras including integrated kitchen appliances and bathroom suites with Porcelanosa tiling.
