Simple Life Health and Wellbeing Series 2021

As part of Simple Life’s Peace of Mind month in April, we were thrilled to return our popular Heath & Wellbeing series to offer support to those struggling through lockdown. This year was entirely resident focused as we shared eight videos all created by our customers who had a skill to share to make up our virtual series.

Many have found the most recent lockdown even more challenging than the first and staying connected to a community is a key resource to all of us in order to look after our wellbeing. Over the course of four weeks, our series saw a range of videos posted to our social channels, focused on themes connected to Health and Wellbeing. Whether it’s doing a home exercise video or baking something tasty and nutritious for your household, sometimes taking small steps can take the edge off turbulent times.

Week 1 – Exercise

The first week was focused on exercise, arguably the most effective way of looking after our health and wellbeing, with the gyms still closed at the launch of the series, we were all looking for ways to keep active from our homes. We kicked off with a video aimed at those with young children, as resident Lauren (Lollitots) recorded a Baby Yoga and Massage session to promote wellbeing for both parents and children. Our second video of the week came from Victoria (Durban Mill resident) who lost an impressive 8kg during lockdown through various exercise routines around her home and development.

They can be viewed anytime on our YouTube Playlist or by clicking their pictures below:

As a special treat for exercise week, we had a bonus video that fantastic fitness instructor Aimee Hulston provided, for a fun music-led workout. Residents could join the workout for free through a link that was active for 7 days so the class could be taken at their leisure.

Week 2 – Beauty

This was followed by Beauty week. It’s no secret that looking after our appearance boosts self-esteem and if you look good, you feel good, simple as that. This theme was perfectly timed as restrictions were gradually beginning to ease and we prepared to transition from virtual meetings to some much needed face time.

One of our younger residents, Caitlin shared a make- up tutorial, showcasing her ‘Escape from lockdown’ look to offer inspiration as we started to think about socializing again. In addition we had professional hairdresser and Simple Life resident Violetta share her amazing styling tips and haircare routines while the salons were still closed.

Week 3 – Food & Baking

To quote Mary Berry; ‘Cooking and baking is both physical and mental therapy’ and if it’s good enough for Mary, it’s good enough for us, as we dove into the kitchen for our third week.

Once again we were lucky enough for our residents to share videos to celebrate our theme and they both had little helpers for the occasion. Lucy and her son Reggie walked us through their simple and easy recipe for delicious scones,  the ideal tea time treat. Whereas later in the week, Avril and her little girl shared a Protein Pancake recipe as well as providing tips for incorporating positivity and mindfulness into your morning routine.

Week 4 – Mental Wellbeing

For the final week we celebrated Mental Wellbeing, a healthy mind can give you the ability to tackle anything that comes your way, and the importance of looking after our mental health cannot be understated. Our wonderful resident and Clinical Hypnotherapist; Adel kindly returned with a new video, this time for a deep relaxation session, sharing exercises to improve your sleep whilst reducing stress and anxiety.

We then wrapped the series with a specially recorded set by musician and resident Rumbi Tauro, for all to enjoy. Rumbi has a gorgeous soulful style and her performance is the perfect soundtrack to sit back and relax to.
